Stainless steel filter by Espresso Brewing LAB

Our Padre tech guru, Foster, lent me this stainless steel filter the other day and I was very sceptical about it. I'm not a huge fan of stainless steel filters but when I realised that the company behind it was IMS I got a little excited. They have created some great stainless steel filters for Aeropress and siphons.

AND NOW.......

The Espresso Brewing LAB (E&B Lab) ultrafine coffee filter is brilliant. E&B Lab is the creative laboratory of IMS and hand crafted in Italy. IMS are what I believe to be leaders in the field. Their slogan is the perfect way to describe them: "the art of steel at the service of good coffee".

Not only does the filter look the part, the filter works very well with all different grind sizes. The 35 micron filtration allows you to use the filter like you would use a paper filter. Metal filters tend to give you more body and less acidity, sweetness and flavour. However, this filter gives you everything you need in the cup. It's well balanced.

It's sturdy and well manufactured but like all things you must care for it. Cleaning the filter is super easy. After using the filter, rinse it with hot water and let it dry. I'd suggest after a lot of use, soak it in hot water with a coffee cleaner, which will remove the coffee oils that may get stuck in the mesh over time.

I'm not going to go into the pros and cons of paper versus metal filters because I'll be here for hours, but this product is one of the best to hit the market. Check out their Instagram, Facebook and website for more information.
